Prestwick Airport welcomes Hong Kong Air Cargo

Prestwick Airport, United Kingdom

Hong Kong Air Cargo touched down at Prestwick Airport on Tuesday 11th February 2025, inaugurating the new direct link and first dedicated cargo capacity between Scotland and the Far East. The new venture expands on delivery opportunities from Asia’s booming e-commerce hub to the U.K. and conversly provides direct links to the lucrative Asian market for Scottish fresh produce and whisky exports. The arriving flight from Hong Kong, via a technical stop in Almaty, carried a combined shipment from three of the top four e-commerce platforms – SHEIN, Temu, and TikTok – all of which operate out of Hong Kong.

Chairman of Hong Kong Air Cargo Tony Ma said “Glasgow Prestwick is our first new destination for 2025. We are delighted to inaugurate this new route. As a key player in the air cargo industry, we are proud to expand our reach to Scotland, marking our dedication to enhancing global trade connections and strengthening our presence in the UK market and beyond.”

Flight 396 was welcomed onto stand at Prestwick in the early hours of Tuesday morning by a traditional Scottish piper.

The flights can carry up to 60 tonnes of cargo each way, with the inbound sectors freight being handled on-site and issued for final delivery by Royal Mail Group and EVRI.

“The arrival of Hong Kong Air Cargo’s flights is a clear sign that our efforts to develop Prestwick as a leading e-commerce hub are delivering results,” said Nico Le Roux, Business Development Director, Prestwick. “The next step is ensuring that the return flights to Hong Kong are fully utilised, presenting a major opportunity for Scottish exporters. Scottish salmon and whisky are highly sought-after in Asia, and this new route provides a direct and efficient means of getting these premium products to the Hong Kong and mainland Chinese market.”
